We're already well into Meteorological Winter, but will there be any proper snow before the year is out?

There will certainly be some cold snaps, snowy or not, and days are short. For many creatures finding enough food to survive takes up almost every hour of daylight. So it's important to think about how we can support wildlife through the winter months. Find out more on our Act for Nature pages.

Looking forward to next year, here's a very importrant date for your diaries...

  • Betchworth Wassail 2026 Date for your diary, not to be missed! Saturday 17 January at 4.30pm. Join us for some mildly bonkers fun at the village Wassail to ‘bless’ the apple trees in the village orchard next to Golbourn Green. Last year’s Wassail must have worked as 2025 saw a bumper crop of apples in the village!
Looking back over the past year:
  • Betchworth Forest Camp 2025 was a resounding success; we ran May and August sessions, which were hugely popular. to get a flavour of a Forest Camp day read Linda Spratt's report. We have exciting plans for 2026...
  • Re-Betchworth's fourth AppleFest was a record-breaking success! 1.6 tonnes of fruit was juiced - more than three times last year’s volume! Get the headlines here...
And there's more...
  • 4Bs Biodiversity park - what is it and how can you get involved? Take a look at the 4Bs Biodiversity dedicated website for more information.
  • Encouraged by the interest in fungi, we’re looking to start a seasonal series of guided foraging walks.  Maybe we finish each with a plant-based cooking evening too? What do you think?

We’ll also continue our series of Zoom talks, bringing in experts to share their knowledge on-line.

You’ll hear more in future newsletters plus the occasional email alert from us. And if one or other of the above particularly floats your boat, let us know here. All feedback and ideas welcome!
