Community Biodiversity Park Update

There's been a lot going on since the official launch of the Community Biodiversity Park (CBP) on 25 March at the Parish Council AGM

Re-B Trustee Norman Jackson, who spear-heads this project, has been hard at work progressing his inspiring idea of establishing a CBP connecting the 4Bs:  Betchworth, Brockham, Buckland and Box Hill.

Before the launch, Norman had already built a six-person planning/facilitation team and a cracking website - Imagine a Community Biodiversity Park. On 8 May held a ‘Forum’ meeting with representatives from the Parish and neighbourhood Councils, Mole Valley District Council, Surrey County Council, Surrey Wildlife Trust, National Trust, Surrey Hills Society, major Landowners and the Buglife Charity.

All credit to Norman and thanks to the 11 potential members who attended this strategic discussion, which worked to identify the value, pros and cons, opportunities, concerns and challenges of establishing a CBP.

At the more practical level, he and his team have put together a considerable programme of activities and nature awareness events as they seek to create demonstration projects at community level, and show individuals how they might participate in a CBP.

Norman Jackson has just produced 4Bs Nature Magazine - Gardening and Farming for Biodiversity - a 40 page online colour magazine to document what's being done for bio-diversity in Betchworth and our neighbouring villages of Buckland, Brockham and Box Hill.  You can download a copy here.

Head on over to the CBP website and check out all the events and activities. You can also also find information here on our upcoming events listing section at the bottom of the Home page .
